About Chris

CHRIS TUTELA-Fitness
Expert-Business Owner-Life Strategist

I’m Chris Tutela, owner of Tutela Training Systems, LLC in Clark, NJ and strength and conditioning specialist since 2006.

You may have read some of my work on EliteFTS.com or TrainHeroic.com.
Or maybe you’ve been a reader of my popular blog formerly at TutelaTraining.com.

Maybe you’ve come across my gym on social media or heard of our reputation for helping people pack on muscle and strength, lose fat and optimize their lives.

If you’ve ever caught one of my training videos or read some of my work, you know that we are a no-nonsense training facility where people come to put in plenty of sweat and become part of something special. Part of the TTS Family.

However, there is some stuff you may not know about me.

I have had to deal with some pretty difficult situations in my life and overcome many obstacles to get to this point.

For most of my adult life I’ve dealt with a loved one battling addiction. Home for me became extremely toxic and painful, and felt anything but safe.

My focus was constantly on my family and trying to “fix” the situation, which lead to me becoming unhealthy, unmotivated, depressed, anxious and broke.

The only time I was able to focus on something other than my home life was while I was training.

It was one of the only things that gave me a way out.

Become the You that You Have The Potential to Become

Training helped me shift my focus, which lead me to learning more about myself and valuing hard work. I wanted to help people overcome the situations they were going through in their lives and I knew how much of an impact fitness had on mine, so in 2009 I opened Tutela Training Systems as an independent contractor at a private training facility.

After a few years my business and reputation began to grow so I opened my first training facility in 2012. I then became the head strength and conditioning coach for Union High School Football in 2013 and 2014.

Currently, at Tutela Training Systems we work with hundreds of people every year. Our mission is to not only help them achieve physical greatness, but to master themselves emotionally and psychologically as well.

Everything I discuss on this site is based on my own experience, as well as the experience of the thousands of people who I have worked with since 2006. It has taken me years to overcome some of the obstacles I’ve dealt with. To do so I’ve spent thousands of dollars hiring coaches and mentors, removed many negative people from my life, attended conferences and seminars, removed bad habits and created good ones, quit a job that many people called me crazy for, surrounded myself with the right people and read tons of books and listen to audio on everything training, nutrition and personal development every day of my life.

My life’s experiences have lead me to a clear sense of purpose:

To guide everyone to become the best version of themselves; mentally, emotionally and physically. There is absolutely no reason why you can’t live a strong life of happiness and fulfillment. I am far from special. I’m a 5’9 genetically average dude who grew up afraid, shy, anxious, stressed, with struggles at home and no money.

If I can overcome my shit I know you can too.
And it starts with getting strong and fit.
This is the moment in which you can start living the life you were meant to live. With less stress, fear, depression and pain and more happiness, fulfillment and joy.
You were meant to be great.
To be fit, healthy, wealthy and happy.

Here are some simple training tactics that will completely transform your physique.

Train to (or close to) failure on your working sets.

Only use exercises that feel right on your joints.

Track your weights and reps in a training log.

Leave your fucking phone in the car.

Warm up.

Try to increase weight or reps each week.

Treat strength training like a skill and master technique.

Drop your ego.

Rest in between sets. The idea is to get strong and build muscle. Not get sweaty and out of breath.

Train specific movement patterns. Don’t force feed yourself any specific exercises.

Most people show up to the gym and “pretend” to train.

They have all the fancy gear.

They post selfies to show the world they’re at the gym.

But they’ll never reap the benefits of undistracted, hard fucking work.

By all means, rock your new gear. Take photos and videos.

But when you walk through the doors to go train, lock in.

Focus.

Leave all of your worries, doubts, fears, and insecurities at the door. We all got ‘em.

But for those 60 minutes it’s your time to free yourself from all the chaos in the world and focus on the one thing you have control over...

Yourself.

Hope this helps 💪
Sleep plays a MAJOR role in your health and fitness

Especially after 35

Here’s 10 things you can do to enhance your sleep

Cut off caffeine by 5 pm

Turn off of work for the day by 6 pm

Unwind with the family (walks, talks, play, chill)

Stop eating by 8 pm

Put phone on airplane mode by 9:30 pm

List out the most important tasks that you need to prioritize the next day

TV off by 10 pm

Hot shower

No electronics in the bedroom. We have blackout curtains and zero light.

Set temp to 64 degrees (67 degrees is the warmest but I like it colder)

SAVE this post and remember that your sleep makes a bigger impact than you think 💪😴

‼️We’re hiring a leader at Tutela Training Systems‼️

Not just another coach.
Not someone to “run sessions.”

👉 A leader.

Someone who can:

Walk into a room and raise the standard
Hold people accountable
Take ownership of the environment
Actually care about the experience our members have

This is a part-time, non-coaching role (10–15 hrs/week)
focused on leading the floor and managing our team.

You’ll be responsible for:

Ensuring sessions run at a high level
Developing and holding coaches accountable
Maintaining energy, culture, and standards inside the gym
Helping create an elite training environment

This is not for everyone.

❌ If you just want to coach sessions
❌ If you avoid hard conversations
❌ If you need constant direction

This is NOT the role for you.

But if you’re someone who:

Takes ownership
Has presence and leadership ability
Wants to grow into a bigger role
👉 This could turn into a full-time leadership position
